Cutaways
The
cutaway illustration shown here was created as 
a line drawing
in FreeHand, exported
as an Encapsulated Post Script file and opened in Photoshop. There
the color, shading and highlights were added.
The digital file was processed at a service bureau where negative film
was output for 4-color process printing of a valve catalog. Two other
types of valves were similarly rendered.
The catalogs were printed in a combination of 4-color process, 2-color
and tri-tones. They were then collated, folded and saddle-stitched.
This
illustration was similarly crafted. The turbulance in the fluids
was airbrushed in using PhotoShop. The final product was printed
4-color process from digitally produced film.
